New tuna spaghetti recipe- switch your traditional meaty spaghetti for a change!

The all time favorite spaghetti recipe has captured so many generations and by far is still one of the most requested recipes all over the world. This time, we will switch a little bit. We go revolutionary with our spaghetti recipe. We will use Tuna instead of meat and will add mushroom to it. This recipe was introduced to me by one of my colleagues at work in 2009 and from there I am using this recipe whenever we feel bored with the usual meaty spaghetti.

It has a distinct flavor highlighting the tuna instead of the pork or beef add on. Although it can’t match the flavor that we used to have with pork or beef, the tuna’s taste is something special and memorable. There is a combination of sweet and salty taste while still preserving the beloved signature aroma of the traditional spaghetti. I can’t wait to share you the ingredients and the simple procedures we have for this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • Tuna- 2 cans (I usually choose Century Tuna big can in Philippines, but you may use whatever tuna is available in your area)
  • Spaghetti noodles- 1/2 kg
  • Spaghetti sauce- 1 bottle/pack (we bought it from Asda)
  • Mushroom- 1 pack (about 125g, diced)
  • Celery- 2 sticks
  • Parsley leaves- 1 handful (this is used in the last part, to sprinkle it over once finished)
  • Vegetable Oil- 3 tsp (on our recipe, we used the oil from Tuna cans since we what we bought was Tuna in Sunflower oil)
  • Salmon paste- optional
  • Garlic- 4-5 cloves
  • Onion- 1 piece
  • Tomato- 1 piece
  • Salt- 2 tsp (depending on your preference)
  • Pepper- 1/2 tsp
  • Brown sugar- 1-2 tsp(depending on your preference)

Simple procedures:

  • 1. Prepare the spaghetti noodles- on a pan, put in 500 ml of water and bring to boil. IMPORTANT- Add 1 tsp oil to the water and salt. The oil prevents the noodles from sticking together during the boiling process and the salt brings taste to it. Once the water boils, add in the spaghetti noodles, cooking time is approx 7-8 minutes but it depends on each type of noodle you buy, make sure to stir it every 1-2 minutes and make sure you do not overboil it. Drain once done and set aside. Feel free to watch our full video in our Youtube channel to guide you.
  • 2. Dice the spices, mushroom, celery and parsley leaves.
  • 3. Sautee the garlic, onion and tomato.
  • 4. Add in the tuna and give a good mix.
  • 5. Add the spaghetti sauce plus the salt+pepper to taste.
  • 6. Bring to boil and add the celery and mushroom. Simmer for about 3 minutes, adding some brown sugar. Add a drop of Olive oil to add in the flavor.
  • 7. Rest the pan for about 5 minutes and add the pasta into it.
  • 8. Enjoy!

Serves: 7-8 persons

Preparation time: Approximately 45 minutes

This is really an amazing recipe that is worth sharing with family, friends and anyone who loves spaghetti! We hope that you have enjoyed this recipe and we would love to hear your comments once you tried it.
